Fu's Subcutaneous Needling(FSN) Therapy Demonstrates Innovative Approaches to Traditional Chinese Medicine Heritage — Young Talents Gathered in Kunming to Exchange Insights at Yunnan Provincial Young TCM Doctors' Symposium
From May 23 to 25, the Sixth Yunnan Provincial Young TCM Doctors' Symposium on Inheritance and Innovative Development and the Leadership Transition Meeting of the YTCM Working Committee under the Yunnan Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine were held in Kunming. Dr. Wu Lilong, Deputy Director of the Anorectal and Pelvic Floor Diseases Diagnosis and Treatment Center at Qujing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of the First Ward of the Anorectal Department, was elected as Vice Chairman of the YTCM Working Committee. He conducted a hands-on demonstration of Fu’s Subcutaneous Needling (FSN) techniques during the practical session of the conference.
During the lecture session, Director Wu Lilong systematically explained the innovative application of Fu's Subcutaneous Needling (FSN) in anorectal and pelvic floor diseases to over 300 attendees through a triple approach: theoretical exposition, device demonstration, and live diagnosis. He first distributed FSN devices for hands-on observation, then performed an immediate treatment on a committee member suffering from neck-shoulder pain. The striking therapeutic effect drew resounding admiration from the audience. Following the session, multiple committee members requested specialized training at Qujing Hospital, demonstrating strong interest in the technique.
As early as 2017, after Director Wu Lilong attended the 2017 Fu Zhonghua Three-Step Course Tour Lecture Class on FSN Medicine17, he widely applied Fu's Subcutaneous Needling (FSN) therapy to the field of anorectal and pelvic floor diseases1. This approach achieved unexpected results in many refractory diseases1, and his department gradually accumulated extensive experience in the clinical application of FSN1, attracting widespread attention from medical peers across various regions1.
As a National Key Specialty and participating unit in the National TCM Advantage Specialty Construction Project, this department in Qujing relentlessly pursues an integrative approach combining Chinese and Western medicine for pelvic floor disorders. It advances the adoption of FSN as its signature technique through a three-pronged strategy:
First: Establishing a standardized teaching framework to cultivate the next generation of FSN practitioners.
The department has integrated FSN therapy into mandatory training modules for visiting physicians and standardized residency programs, implementing a three-phase progression: theoretical instruction → simulation training → clinical application. Over the past three years, it has trained over 40 medical professionals from more than 10 institutions across provinces including Hubei (HB), Sichuan (SC), and Guizhou (GZ), alongside nearly 100 resident physicians in FSN techniques.
Second: Building signature academic platforms to expand FSN's professional influence.
Leveraging two flagship initiatives—the Multidisciplinary Pelvic Floor Disorders Summit and the provincial-level "Zhuyuan" Workshop on Anorectal/Pelvic Floor Therapeutics—the department has attracted over 2,000 participants nationwide. FSN is strategically showcased as a core innovation, with its live demonstration sessions consistently drawing crowded, standing-room-only audiences around the procedural area.
Third: Advancing clinical-scientific integration to consolidate FSN's developmental foundation.
Academic Publications
The department has led the compilation of Academic Thoughts and Clinical Experience of Wang Jihou and Yunnan's Expertise in Treating Complex Anorectal Disorders, incorporating specialized FSN case studies to provide reliable methodologies for refractory conditions47.
Peer-Reviewed Research
Three landmark papers were published:
· FSN Combined with Biofeedback for Refractory Anorectal Pain
· FSN for Post-Stroke Urinary Dysfunction
· Integrating FSN with Herbal Medicine for Heat-Dampness Constipation17.
Innovation Pipeline
· Pioneered FSN for post-surgical analgesia, initiating a multicenter study with Qujing TCM Anorectal Quality Control Alliance (2025 Municipal TCM Innovation Project).
· The "FSN Tree" diagram mapping pelvic indications received China's design patent (2024)
Driven by the collective dedication of the FSN community, our discipline has achieved robust progress in recent years. We warmly invite fellow practitioners nationwide to visit our center for professional exchange, jointly advancing the scaled application of FSN therapeutics.
